From Lunar Inspiration to Athletic Innovation:

The Legacy of KangaROOS Dynacoil Technology
INSPIRATION

In 1979, the revolutionary "Original Shoe with Pockets" emerged, bearing the emblem of the kangaroo, symbolizing progress and ingenuity. This debut marked the inception of KangaROOS COMBAT, igniting a remarkable journey in footwear. By 1980, KangaROOS etched its name in history as Bill Rogers triumphed in the Boston City Marathon donning the COMBAT, smashing an American record and propelling the brand to widespread acclaim.

Expanding its horizons, KangaROOS delved into the relm of basketball in 1983 with the debut of KangaROOS SKYWALKER, embraced by NBA legend Clyde "The Glide" Drexler, emerging as an iconic sneaker of the 80s. Continuously forward-looking, Bob Gamm established a cutting-edge 10,000 square meter KangaROOS laboratory at the University of Illinois, USA, devoted to the testing of athletic footwear. Here, Gamm drew inspiration from NASA’s 3-dimensional monofilament used in lunar boots, collaborating with KangaROOS USA’s technical team and NASA engineers over three years to pioneer the 'Dynacoil' technology—a 3D woven coil fabric tailored for serious runners.

In 1986, the brand unveiled the groundbreaking KangaROOS Dynacoil cushioning system, a NASA-tested innovation that redefined comfort and performance in athletic footwear. The Dynacoil midsole cushioning system revolutionized athletic footwear by mitigating peak impact forces on feet, channeling absorbed energy back to the legs during toe-off. The intricately developed system's mechanical core featured the "Tri-Lock" three-dimensional space fabric, an evolution of the original lunar boot material, integrating interlocking fiber coils as the third dimension. Encased within a polyurethane foam carrier and enveloped by a stable "motion control rim," the space fabric ensured enduring shock-absorbing capabilities.

Validated by independent biomechanical and physiological tests, the Dynacoil cushioning system not only absorbed and redistributed energy with every step but also provided unmatched stability and motion control. The midsole's exceptional resilience efficiently harnessed and recycled energy back into the athlete, elevating performance to new heights.

From its birth in America to its foothold in Europe, the storied legacy of KangaROOS continues to evolve, seamlessly blending state-of-the-art technology with timeless aesthetics, leaving an indelible imprint on the global footwear landscape.
